At this time, our primary focus is on building and sustaining a mutual aid fund, providing microgrants to to sex workers based on need and social marginalization.
We believe that care work is direct action. Care webs, mutual aid, and other forms of collective care in the absence of systems that have failed to provide care, or worse, have actively caused harm to our communities, are more important than ever. Government inaction continues to threaten the survival of our most vulnerable, so care-driven coalitions are vital to fill the gaps left by the state.
MUTUAL AID FUND & COMMUNITY MICROGRANTS
Sex workers are a vital part of the economy, and are among some of the most skilled at helping redistribute wealth in and among their communities.
When funds are available, we open applications for microgrants ($50-$200) to sex workers based on Vancouver Island, prioritizing requests for support from those who are at greatest risk of experiencing the harms of poverty, stigma and isolation. Cash is given whenever possible.
As a collective, we do not profit from this. Our budget, including all crowdfunded donations and expenses are publicly accessible on the Open Collective platform.
CYBER REFUGE
We have partnered with Peers Victoria Resources Society to offer a twice monthly Cyber Refuge for current & former sex workers who identify as disabled and are based on Vancouver Islands/Gulf Islands.
We aim to offer a supportive, inclusive & accessible space where we can lean into a community of dignity and belonging. We’re also curious about creatively archiving our collective wisdom of working through pandemic-times, and resisting the stigma and ableism that tries to keep us seperate from one another.
We are a closed group with a fixed number of participants for a set duration. Participants have access to a series of workshops, resources, advocacy training, and community collaboration with allied individuals and organizations, and are offered an honorarium for their time.
